The Black Assassins, The Dead Kennedys, The Johnnies
The press release the Black Assassins issued for their first gig proclaimed our ambition to support the Dead Kennedys if they came to Australia, so the band was happy to reunite in Brisbane when the offer came. It was the largest gig we ever played with an enthusiastic crowd of over 2,500 people. Our guitarist and roadie got hassled by the police before the gig and the cops arrested the Dead Kennedys drummer after the gig for drinking on the street and being black. The racist Queensland police refused to arrest the rest of us drinking on the street as we loaded out equipment that night because our skin was white.
